Reporting your data
Accounts, the CSV files, the codes small producers use, and who is legally responsible.
What to collect
GOV.UK says small producers must collect data on:
- your packaging activities (e.g. selling, filling, importing);
- the packaging 'class' (e.g. a single sales unit vs grouped packaging);
- packaging material;
- weight of each material, in kilograms;
- plastic and paper bags supplied in England (see the Environment Agency's regulatory position statement).
Codes small producers use
Per GOV.UK: record all drinks containers as 'household drinks containers'; report plastic simply as 'plastic' (no rigid/flexible split); and use only the codes SP (small organisation packaging, all) and HDC (household drinks containers). GOV.UK provides a file generator tool and example file.
The report packaging data (RPD) service
- Accounts can be created by a director or company secretary, a partner, or an LLP member; sole traders can create their own.
- The regulator approves the account holder as the 'approved person', who is legally responsible for the data being as accurate as reasonably possible. 'Delegates' can be invited and also carry legal responsibilities.
- Registration needs an organisation details CSV (address, turnover, packaging activities, contacts, who verifies and submits data) and your packaging data CSV.
Which regulator?
You report to the regulator for your nation: Environment Agency (England), Natural Resources Wales, SEPA (Scotland) or NIEA (Northern Ireland).
Keep records for 7 years.
